Principal Welcome

I am honoured to be the Foundation Principal of Evelyn Scott School. As a Future Focused school, we will learn through inquiry-based approaches that connects learners and their learning to the world. We will lead our community to engage with the ACT Future of Education Strategy and all of its possibilities. Contemporary learning means preparing for a shifting future that requires skills and knowledge, citizenship, connection to culture and the environment and capacity to solve complex problems with creative approaches.

We are clearly very privileged to have such an inspirational trailblazer as Dr Evelyn Scott as our school’s namesake. We have been fortunate to maintain this connection by engaging Ms Charmaene Scott, Dr Evelyn Scott’s daughter, as one of our School Board members.

In February 2021, we welcomed all of our students and families to Evelyn Scott School. We look forward to welcoming our high school learners when we open our high school at the beginning of 2023.

The Evolution of Evelyn Scott School

It is worth remembering that we have been entrusted with this beautiful school and a great deal of funds and resources have gone into constructing a contemporary building to match our contemporary approach to learning.

Future Focused Learning at Evelyn Scott School

Put simply, the education that served us as either Baby Boomers or Generation X/Y no longer serves our children. Contemporary learning means preparing for a shifting future that requires skills and knowledge, citizenship, connection to culture and the environment and capacity to solve complex problems with creative approaches.

Harmony Day

During Week 7, Evelyn Scott School staff, learners, families and community came together to celebrate our very first Harmony Day in our playground. This is a time to celebrate Australia’s multiculturalism. At Evelyn Scott School, we highly value diversity and viewed Harmony Day as a great opportunity to promote inclusion. All learners across the school have been engaging in a whole school unit of inquiry around community. The Evelyn Scott School Team used this opportunity to learn more about the diverse cultures, celebrations, traditions, and languages within our school. We aim to build an understanding and respect for the different cultures within our community.
